Direction, values, or ideal next role are not reflected in matches

Symptom​

Your match analysis does not seem to reflect your preferred role direction, values, work rights, location, salary, or work type.

Fix steps​

  1. Open Preferences and check your country, work rights, preferred cities, role types, work types, salary, and availability.
  2. Open Values and make sure the wording is specific enough to guide matching.
  3. Open Ideal Next Role and describe the role, team, domain, and direction you want next.
  4. Open the application again and refresh or recalculate where the page offers that action.
  5. Review Alignment and Match Analysis. You should see preference and alignment signals more clearly.

What preferences can and cannot do​

Preferences help RoleSage understand fit. They do not override role requirements, missing skill evidence, salary mismatch, or hirer questions. If the role itself is outside your stated direction, the analysis may still show a lower match band.

Save your startup preference​

In Preferences, open Where I would like to work. Below the cities and right-to-work controls, find Working at a startup and choose:

  • I prefer startups
  • I'm open to startups
  • I don't want to work at a startup

The selection saves automatically. Use the clear button to return to an unanswered preference. Unanswered is different from being open to startups or not wanting startup work.

The field is briefly disabled while saving. If saving fails, your previous choice is restored and an error asks you to select your choice again. Reopen Preferences to check the saved value if you are unsure.

Startup preference is currently saved only. It does not yet filter hirer searches, change matching, or block contact from startups. Selecting a preference does not make your profile public.

Select internship opportunities​

Under How I would like to work, choose Internship from Preferred role types. It appears above Casual and Temporary. Preferred work types is the separate choice for arrangements such as remote, hybrid, and on-site work. Both preferences save automatically.
